Hike 6: Rhododendron – Cathedral Trees

This route passes some of the largest, most spectacular redwoods in the park; it even goes through some of them! The ascents are so short or so gradual that you hardly notice them. The hike begins at the famous Big Tree, then parallels the parkway before veering away up the lovely Brown Creek valley. The east leg follows the Rhododendron Trail, especially beautiful in June when the “rhodies” are blooming. The final section follows the Cathedral Trees Trail, with some of the most interestingly-shaped trees in the park.
